How to make a water proof thistle feeder from items in your home
I have been using my thistle feeder since mid summer and it works so well I made a second one.
You will need a hook bolt with a nut, 2 washers, 2 rubber washers, a drill with bit the same size as the bolt and wire, a plastic coffee can lid, a plastic peanut butter jar,
2 pieces of 12" wire and wood pegs about 10" long.
Drill a hole through the middle of both lids. Insert bolt with washers and rubber washers and tighten. You can add silicone for extra strong seal.
Drill 4 elongated holes about 1" from bottom of the jar. (1/8" x 1/4").
Drill 4 holes about the same diameter is the wire and feed the wire through the holes. Bend the wire downward and attach to the pegs.
Bend the wire as needed to adjust height of pegs from holes. Make sure the pegs stick out enough so the birds can be comfortable, too long is ok but too short is not.
