Mississippi River 6/11/08
Flooded still This reminds me of past years of Catfishing because the Mississippi River was high or flooded.
Look for brush piles along the banks. Use a snagless worm dipped in cheesebait for Channelcat and Bluegill for Flatheads in the holes.
Shad gut works great for both.

Flooded River means good Bass Fishing. The rivers are over flood stage right now so look in backwaters for
clean water and catch big Bass on flooded land. In
this area I would fish Browns or Spring Lake. Way back in the furthest reaches look for bait fish, that will be the
biggest give-away to bass and panfish. Use a rubber worm, jig or spinnerbait. Try using a short rod to cast under the
tree branches. Use Worms and jigs in flooded reeds in sprint lake or flooded bushes.
Look for Walleye near tubes dumping clean water into the rivers for Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. Look for Walleye in
backwater Lakes near deep water. Cast snagless jigs around fallen trees or flip worms up shallow. Look for Walleye, Bass
and other fish just above the dams where the clean backwater water meets the dirty river channel. Use jigs with crawlers
or leeches. Try bobbers with crawlers for catfish along the rip rap for Catfish.
When the water drops and gets down to summer levels, one over looked area to catch a lot of Walleye, White Bass,
Crappie, Bluegill and Catfish is the tailwaters of Dam 14 on the Mississippi River. All the tailwaters are good below all
the dams but this dam has a lot of shallow water making the fishing much easier. Cast medium diver crankbaits and retrieve
it very slow to get down deep enough to bump rocks.

Look for schools of Walleye up shallow around points. Look for spread out Walleye in open water trolling crankbaits and
spinner-rigs with a kicker motor. Bass will be in spawn, could be tough fishing but try fishing ledges 9-12 feet deep
with jigs and crawlers. Try a bare hook and crawler or 1/8th ounce jig with a split shot or small sinker pegged ahead of
the lure about 18-24".
