Belview is the best Dam for Walleye

Lock and dam 12 at Belview is the best Dam for Walleye in Illinois. I’m catching fish up there and there is less fishing pressure than the pools south of there, and belview has much better fishing. Most guys are fishing the pocket and the lock area on the Iowa side. Catching Smallmouth Bass along the rock shores on crankbaits. The water is much cleaner up there and very muddy on pool 14. Catching fish on jigs and minnows in deep water.

When you have high water you end up with a few inches of siltation everywhere, this comes from the Maquoketa River because some Iowa farmers don’t care about erosion, they only rent so they just don’t care about the lost topsoil or the river. When barges run up river they stir up this sediment and that makes the water muddy. When larger boats leave a big wake this washes the banks adding more mud to the water. Once you get above the Maquoketa River you have clean water and good fishing.
