Not Going to Lake Erie This Year

We decided not to go to Lake Erie again this year because the place where we were staying stopped having half price for out of season bookings. That was St. Hazards which really doesn’t accommodate fisherman anyway. The wife did like the pool, so without that I don’t know if she would even want to go because it’s pretty boring on the islands.

We used to stay on South Bass but after I had to take my early retirement we couldn’t afford the high rates there. I like camping myself but she would rather stay indoors.

The place where we used to stay on Middle Bass closed down, so that left us with St.Hazards or rent a house for about $800 a week on up. But after that place closed other fisherman quickly checked out all the houses and they got them book every year at the times we want to go. With the price of gas it would cost a fortune so we decided not to go. I don’t know if we’ll ever go back. Maybe when the grandkids get old enough it would be worth it to rent a house for a week, or if we could share a house but no couples we know like to go there.

My Lake Erie DVDs used to be my best seller, but they are really slow this year, so either people have already made a trip or everyone that was planning a trip already bought a copy. So it’s not worth it to invest a lot of money to make a new DVD.

About Dave Tackett

Dave Tackett is from Sterling Illinois. An avid fisherman since childhood, he has fished all over the Midwest, mainly the Mississippi River pools 8-19. His home waters are pools 13 & 14. After fishing Bass tournaments for many years, he gave it up to fish for Walleye year round. He now guides and fishes for fun.
