High Water

Well I got my flatbottom un-tarped and in the garage since the rivers are rising again. Last year the water was high on the Mississippi River until late July, and I thought that was bad. This year looks like it’s going to be much worse, possible until Fall and then it could be high all fall as well. This was the type of year that made me want to go to Lake Erie to fish. I may have to start going back there every spring and Fall again. I am thinking about making a Fall trip.

The Mississippi River only made it down to 12′ and is back up to 14′, 16′ is flood stage. It should be about 6′ by now. Since we are still getting heavy rains in Iowa, we can’t even start the 6 week drop down period yet.

This is also why I bought my old flatbottom back from the guy I sold it to back in 1992, so I could fish the Rock River again during these high water years. Catfishing isn’t my game but it’s something to do as the summer passes. I just can’t justify s[pending $30 to make a trip to the Mississippi River.
