Clip-on Sinkers in Rivers?

I caught a Big Walleye this summer using a clip-on sinker, on the river.Wow, it even works in rivers! I took a couple guys out from Missouri in July, they come up annually for this and it seems every year its windy as heck. Well this day was no different, it was windy as heck. I forced a good day out of the misery. I was catching fish all summer, but with the north wind it was very difficult to jig with three in the boat. I tried and tried and all we got was tangled up. After a couple rough hours I told the guys reel em in we are going to do some trolling with the kicker motor. So I start trolling the main river and we did start catching fish, or they did I should say. I let them both straight line without planer-boards since it was so windy and so much grass floating down it was difficult. Everything was fine, they were catching a few big walleye and they couldn’t be happier. Then everything went dead, so I made them check their baits and cleaned the weeds off, but still nothing. I was keeping my lure straight behind the boat and not very far out to keep from tangling with those two guys, so I attached a clip-on sinker and dropped it down till I started bumping bottom with my crankbait right away and within minutes caught an eight pound walleye! Two things happened when I added this two ounce clip-on sinker, one I was only 20 feet behind the boat yet right close to bottom and two the grass sticking to lure problem was gone because my sinker keeps the bait free from weeds and I was rewarded with a nice Walleye. I think I have been under estimated this clip-on sinker on the river, its not all that snagless, it is for open water, but since the price is low I don't need to worry about losing a few and I really don't lose any. They just seem to last forever, I use the same ones for years. If I fish another walleye tournament I will be using them for sure. It seems they just catch big fish, period.
